The English contralto Norma Procter has died at the age of 89. She studied with Roy Henderson and had a long career in concerts, recitals and opera; for the latter she sang Lucretia in Britten’s Rape of Lucretia, with the composer conducting, and made her Royal Opera debut in 1961 as Gluck’s Orpheus.

Norma Procter was born in Cleethorpes on 15 February 1928 and she died on 2 May 2017.
