On Wednesday 29 November Lisa Batiashvili will perform the UK premiere of Hillborg’s Violin Concerto No. 2 at London’s Barbican Centre with Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. “Hillborg is such a fascinating composer who writes genuinely good music,” she comments. “He knows how to create melodies that stay in the memory. I’m looking forward to performing this wonderful, rich piece again and know that it will be fun!”
The Swedish composer wrote the concerto especially for Lisa Batiashvili who gave the world premiere in October 2016 with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Sakari Oramo. She will perform the UK premiere in a programme that also includes Sibelius’s Symphonies 4 and 6, as part of the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s Sibelius cycle.
Lisa Batiashvili is praised by audiences and fellow musicians for her virtuosity and “profound sensitivity” (Financial Times) and has established relationships with some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Berlin, Berliner Philharmoniker, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and London Symphony Orchestra. Her way of making music, alive to an infinite range of tonal colours and expressive nuances, has gained in recent years from close collaborations with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Christian Thielemann and Sir Antonio Pappano.
