Sir John Manduell, closely associated with the BBC's Third Programme (as Radio 3 was then), Lancaster University, the Cheltenham Music Festival (running it for twenty-five years) and then as principal of the Royal Northern College of Music, has died at the age of eighty-nine. Sir John was also a composer.

John Manduell was born in Johannesburg in 1928 and he died on 25 October 2017.
