Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition is delighted to announce that Bill Turnbull will be hosting this year's Finals on 2nd and 3rd March.
After hosting our Gala Fundraiser night last July, the ex BBC Breakfast presenter and now Classic FM presenter, Bill Turnbull was so impressed with the standard of the Competition that he offered to compere the finals this year!
The 2018 Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition reaches its climax this weekend, when the six finalists who have battled their way through three demanding rounds get to compete head to head playing with one of the world’s great orchestras, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Final will take place over two evenings on Friday March 2 and Saturday March 3 at the White Rock Theatre in Hastings.
The competition began on Thursday 22 February with 37 contestants in Stage 1, reducing to 21 for Stage 2, which began on Monday of this week. Up to 12 pianists will then play in the semi-final which takes place on Wednesday 28 February. Artistic Director Frank Wibaut is delighted with the standard of this year’s competitors.
The final six will then be chosen to go forward and play the whole of a concerto of their own choice with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a rare chance to hear some of the world’s finest young concert pianists performing with one of the world’s great orchestras.
The eventual winner will receive a cheque for £15,000, the chance to play as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic orchestra as well as other concerts in the UK and the opportunity to perform a concerto in the United States.
All stages of the competition take place at the White Rock Theatre and are open to the public. www.whiterocktheatre.org.uk. For more information please visit http://www.hastingsconcertocompetition.co.uk
