The Menuhin Competition – the world’s leading international competition for young violinists – is pleased to announce that many of its 2018 events, running from 12 – 22 April in Geneva, will be broadcast live online by Arte Concert. More than 50 hours of live performances will be produced, showing the progression of the 44 young competitors in addition to the main concerts and masterclasses given as part of the Competition’s programme. The performances will be available to watch on the Competition’s website and will be complemented by further radio and television broadcasts by Radio Télévision Suisse.
During the last edition of the Menuhin Competition, held in London in 2016, nearly 35,000 people in 138 countries around the world followed the live broadcast on YouTube, and the videos were later watched by over 300,000 people in the month following the event. With participants representing 16 countries and 17 nationalities, the Competition will again this year offer these streaming opportunities to a geographically distant audience, opening the Competition up to a global audience.
Arte Concert, which broadcasts 1000 hours of direct broadcast every year, covers major classical music, rock, hip-hop and jazz performances and Festivals around Europe.
