BBC PROMS 2018 ANNOUNCEMENT: FEMINIST RAPPER ‘NITTY SCOTT’ JOINS THE LINE-UP FOR NEW YORK: SOUND OF A CITY PROM ON 8 AUGUST 2018

The BBC Proms are pleased to announce that rapper Nitty Scott will perform in the New York: Sound of a City Prom on 8th August 2018. The Prom will be led by innovative conductor Jules Buckley and his Heritage Orchestra, featuring performances from well-established US artists Sharon Van Etten, serpentwithfeet and Hercules & Love Affair.

Nitzia Scott, better known by her stage name Nitty Scott, is a New York City based MC, whose breakthrough came in 2010 when her video for her freestyle of Kanye West’s track Monster went viral. Since then the former art school student turned recording artist has performed with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B and launched her second album Creature! which uses her own life as inspiration for a character named “Negrita in Wonderland” exploring themes such as diasporic identities and the pre-colonial world.

Nitty says: “As a brown girl in NYC, I am so honored to bring the afrolatina, feminista vibes to the BBC stage! Excited to show the UK what you get when you blend island roots, city stoops & one amazing orchestra.”

New York: Sound of a City will be at the Royal Albert Hall on 8th August at 10.15pm and recorded for future broadcast on BBC Four on Friday 10 August.
