BBC PROMS 2018: EX-‘STRICTLY’ STARS HEAD TO THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL FOR FIRST EVER TANGO PROM
The BBC Proms today announced that BBC Strictly Come Dancing alumni, Flavia Cacace and Vincent Simone will appear in the first ever Tango Prom, in a concert presented by 2015 ‘Strictly’ finalist and BBC Radio 3 and Proms Television presenter, Katie Derham.
Exploring the history and enduring appeal of the world’s first ‘world music’, the Tango Prom will take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday 4 September.
This unique Prom will be a celebration of the heady Latin American tango, from its origins in the bars of 1880s Buenos Aires, through to Ástor Piazzolla’s Nuevo Tango that emerged in the 1950s. The story will embrace the Finnish tango tradition of the early 20th century – steeped in the themes of love, sorrow and nature – before coming up to date with some of the latest tango music.
As Latin dance specialists, Vincent and Flavia will bring their highly acclaimed choreography to the orchestral setting from the Britten Sinfonia under conductor, Clark Rundell. The dancing duo will perform alongside Grammy Award-winning pianist, Pablo Ziegler and leading singers and instrumentalists from Europe, the USA and Argentina. Ziegler is considered a leading exponent of Nuevo Tango, having worked extensively with Ástor Piazzolla as his regular pianist in the late ‘70s.
Dancer and choreographer, Flavia Cacace, said: “Vincent and I feel very privileged to have been asked to perform at such a prestigious event and in such a beautiful venue. We are so looking forward to performing with the most amazing orchestra and dancing to the most beautiful music. It is our first Prom and we are very much looking forward to it.”
