The Guildhall School is delighted to announce three new appointments in the Vocal Studies department, all starting in the Autumn 2018 term. Samantha Malk joins as Deputy Head of Vocal Studies; John Ramster as Associate Head of Vocal Studies (Drama); and Charlie Morgan as Associate Head of Vocal Studies (Movement).
A mezzo-soprano, Samantha Malk has worked mainly in the US, where she has mentored and worked with singers from conservatoires and young artist programmes, helping them gain contracts with major US and European opera companies and on Broadway. She is also voice consultant to the Israeli Opera and has served on the faculties of the Brooklyn College, International Vocal Arts Institute and Summer Opera Tel Aviv.
As Deputy Head of Vocal Studies, Malk brings this experience to Guildhall, supporting students’ progress throughout their studies, as well as teaching and leading on various initiatives and helping in the daily running of the department.
John Ramster joins as part-time role as Associate Head of Vocal Studies (Drama), with a remit, alongside his teaching, to lead on drama, scenes and theatre work across the department, and more broadly to support students’ career development. Ramster has taught and directed in the Guildhall School’s Vocal & Opera departments over many years and was until recently Resident Producer at the Royal Academy of Music where he was on staff for over a decade.
Charlie Morgan joins in the same capacity but in Movement, in a part-time role which includes leading on movement training and developing the Guildhall School’s support for students in areas of performers’ health, fitness and wellbeing. She has taught movement and led projects at the School for a number of years, having trained initially on the Drama department’s specialist programme for movement teachers.
Guildhall School of Music & Drama is provided by the City of London Corporation.
