The British musicologist John Tyrrell has died at the age of seventy-six. He was a lecturer and professor holding positions at numerous Universities, the Executive Editor of the second edition of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, and an authority about and an author on Leoš Janáček.

John Tyrrell was born on 17 August 1942 in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia, and he died on 4 October 2018.
