Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) trombonist Peter Moore continues on a four-month ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation) tour across Europe in 2019, with a newly-commissioned work by Roxanna Panufnik: When you appear.
Promoted by the Barbican, Peter Moore takes part in the ECHO Rising Star series, and will visit the UK, Germany, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, and Luxembourg with pianists James Baillieu and Jonathan Ware. Composer Roxanna Panufnik has written a new work for Moore, When you appear, which will be premiered across Europe as part of the tour.
Moore performs a diverse programme including several works not originally written for the trombone, showcasing the wide capabilities of the instrument, with repertoire from Brahms' Four Last Songs to Gershwin's Three Songs. Other composers featured by Moore include Beethoven, Gaubert, Bach, Hindemith, Bozza, Castérède, and Schumann.
In 2008, Peter Moore became the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year prize, aged just 12 years old. When Moore was later appointed co-principal trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra in 2014 he again made history: at the age of just 18, he was the orchestra's youngest ever member. In 2015, he joined the prestigious BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Scheme. Now aged twenty-two, Moore recently gave the UK premiere of James MacMillan's Trombone Concerto at the Barbican on 1 November with the London Symphony Orchestra under conductor Gianandrea Noseda.
On 15 June 2018, Moore released his debut album with Rubicon, Life Force, to great critical acclaim. The album, named Recording of the Month in September's issue of BBC Music Magazine, includes a number of works originally scored for cello, voice, and clarinet. Transcribed by Moore for the trombone, the pieces demonstrate Moore's natural cantabile style. The album is a portrait of his artistry and talent, showcasing works that have played a pivotal role in his development as an artist and for which he has a special and great affection.
Many of the works Moore recorded have found their way into his ECHO Tour Programme, including Schumann's Fantasiestücke and Brahms's Vier ernste Gesänge. Moore's CD partner, pianist James Baillieu, joins the young trombonist for many of his European concerts.
