The American baritone Sanford Sylvan has died at the age of 65. He was born in New York City on 19 December 1953, appeared at Glyndebourne and the Met and other notable opera houses, as well as working regularly with leading orchestras and conductors. He created the role of Chou En-Lai in John Adams's Nixon in China and recorded that composer's The Wound-Dresser. Sanford Sylvan died on 29 January 2019.
