DSO AND COMCAST PARTNER TO BRING LIVE CONCERT STREAMS TO LOCAL CABLE CUSTOMERS ON XFINITY CHANNEL 900
DSO’s Live from Orchestra Hall webcast series, available online, will expand to include cable TV option for more than 1 million Michigan households
Detroit, (February 8, 2019) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and Comcast have partnered to bring the DSO’s groundbreaking Live from Orchestra Hall webcast series to Xfinity Channel 900.
Ten concerts on the 2018-2019 DSO Classical Series will be broadcast live on Comcast’s Xfinity Channel 900, with additional concerts to be confirmed. Many concerts on the recently-announced 2019-2020 Classical Series will be carried by Xfinity as well, with additional details to be announced later.
Live from Orchestra Hall has been streamed more than 1 million times since its launch, with viewers around the world tuning in on internet-connected devices of their choice. Now, local Xfinity customers will have the additional option of viewing Live from Orchestra Hall performances on the biggest screen in their home.
This new partnership gives the DSO greater exposure to more viewers across Michigan, particularly those who are more likely to tune in on their televisions versus over the web on a computer. For Comcast, broadcasting the live concerts adds more value for the company’s Michigan video subscribers.
“This is the DSO’s eighth year distributing live concerts over the web, and we are thrilled to be adding this local cable option to our existing internet options,” says Marc Geelhoed, the DSO’s Director of Digital Initiatives. “We’re excited to partner with Comcast in sharing live classical music with a larger audience—some of whom are already DSO fans, and many who will be experiencing the symphony for the first time.”
Launched during the DSO’s 2011-2012 Season, Live from Orchestra Hall marks a great stride in the DSO’s goal to be the most accessible orchestra on the planet. Through Live from Orchestra Hall, one performance of every Classical Series program is webcast live for free online at dso.org/live and via Facebook Live. Performances on the DSO’s Educational Concert Series are also webcast to tens of thousands of schoolchildren worldwide as part of the Classroom Edition expansion.
Live from Orchestra Hall is presented by Ford Motor Company Fund and made possible by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
