The Praemium Erasmianum Foundation has awarded the 2019 Erasmus Prize to the American composer and conductor John Adams. The cross-disciplinary award is made annually for an exceptional contribution to the field of humanities, social sciences or the arts. This year's theme was 'Composing for Today', citing Adams's idiom which fuses elements of jazz, pop and classical to explore contemporary social themes.
