On 15 May 2019, Carola Reul will become Managing Director of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, after being unanimously appointed by the general assembly of the membership.

Carola Reul worked in the orchestral department of the KD Schmid agency from 2007, and was a Senior Project Manager from 2014. She obtained her degree in music education from the University of Music in Würzburg. After a year in London, Carola Reul completed her teacher training in secondary school music, and followed it up with a Postgraduate Diploma in Cultural Management at London’s City University. After a 3-month placement in the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s management office, in mid-2000 she joined the artist management department at HarrisonParrott in London, before switching to the orchestral department in 2004, where she was in charge of logistics and tour management for numerous international orchestral tours until 2007. Of her new role, Carola Reul says, “The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is a top-class ensemble of inspirational young players. I’m very happy to be able to bring my many years of experience in the international classical music business to this unique orchestra.”

Under to the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie’s fundamentally democratic constitution, the Orchestral Board has a decisive role in appointing management. Johanna Bruns, the Board’s spokesperson, explains: “This was an exciting recruitment round from the very start, and we now look forward very much to collaborating with our new Managing Director Carola Reul. We would also like to thank Christian Fausch for his unstinting commitment to the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. His management style was inspiring and innovative, as well as warmly personal, and an important element in our teamwork. We wish him every possible success in future!”

Jonathan Nott is Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie: “I’ve known Carola for many years. She has enormous experience in the music business, she has a very keen mind, a great sense of humour and a huge love of music. I’m very excited, and these wonderful young musicians will have great fun working together with Carola!”

Christian Fausch has been Managing Director since August 2012. In January 2016 he also became Artistic Management and General Manager of Ensemble Modern and General Manager of the Deutsche Ensemble Akademie, and will retain these two positions in future. Of the imminent hand-over at the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, he says: “It’s good to know that with Carola Reul the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is in safe, experienced hands. This up-and-coming orchestra has come to mean a lot to me over the years we’ve been together, and I wish everyone involved a fruitful partnership, full of new ideas and initiatives to keep the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie moving forward.”
