Elizabeth DeShong has withdrawn from the Glyndebourne Festival 2019 production of Rinaldo for personal reasons. The title role will be sung by Jakub Józef Orliński and replacing him as Eustazio is Patrick Terry.
Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński trained at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and The Juilliard School of Music in New York. He has worked with such renowned conductors as Harry Bicket, Emmanuelle Haïm, Maxim Emelyanychev, Jane Glover, and more. He regularly performs staged opera, chamber concerts, and solo recital tours. In autumn 2018 he released his debut album, Anima Sacra, a recital of 18th-century rediscovered sacred arias on Warner Classics. Orliński is also an experienced break dancer, something he uses to reach a larger audience through social media. His next album on Warner is released in October.
American countertenor Patrick Terry graduated from the Royal Academy of Music and is a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House. His prizes include winner of the Loveday Song Prize at the 2017 Kathleen Ferrier Awards and Second Prize at the 2019 Handel Singing Competition. His previous performances for Glyndebourne include the role of Rosencrantz in Brett Dean’s Hamlet for the 2017 Glyndebourne Tour. Earlier this year, he enjoyed a big success with La Nuova Musica as Ruggiero in Alcina.
The Glyndebourne Festival 2019 production of Rinaldo runs from 8 - 25 August 2019.
