Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecień has withdrawn from singing the role of Malatesta due to personal reasons. The role will now be sung by Austrian baritone Markus Werba.
He made his Royal Opera debut in 2008 as Harlequin and has since sung Mercurcio (Cavalli’s La Calisto), Harlequin (Ariadne auf Naxos), Marcello (La bohème) and Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) for The Royal Opera. Recent roles include Don Giovanni (Staatsoper unter den Linden and Vienna Staatsoper), and Frank/Fritz (Die tote Stadt) for La Scala, Milan.
