Weighty and suave, the English Chamber Orchestra cues delightfully Radu Lupu’s first entry in the ‘Elvira Madigan’ concerto (K467). Lupu’s playing is wonderfully refined, shapely, effortlessly touched and eloquent. This joyous record is completed by the A major Concerto – something of a ‘secret’ masterpiece – and the Quintet’s drawing-room elegance, in which Lupu and his Concertgebouw Orchestra friends deal-out inspired music-making.
